New Quebec family histories at BAnQ — March 2021

The pandemic continues to affect the quantity of recently published books the staff at the Grande Bibliothèque (big library) in Montreal receive and catalogue, with the numbers much smaller than usual and news about the catalogued items being released much later than usual.

For the genealogy section, staff added two Quebec family histories in March.

The Grande Bibliothèque is the flagship library facility of the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ). All books published in Quebec, including family histories, must be deposited at the Grande Bibliothèque. They form part of the national collection.

Here are the two books:

Sur la route des familles Lemire : histoire et généalogie de Le Mire jusqu’aux descendants d’Alfred Lemire, 1625-2020 by Diane Ayotte and Gilles Lemire in collaboration with Huguette Desmarais and Jean-Louis Lemire. Baie-du-Febvre, Quebec : Gilles Lemire, 2020. 440 pages. Primarily illustrations, with the majority in colour.

The history and genealogy the Lemire family from Jean Le Mire to the descendants Alfred Lemire, 1625-2020.

Jean Le Mire (baptised in Rouen, Normandy, France; died in Quebec) is the ancestor of the majority of Lemire and Lemyre still living in Canada. He immigrated to New France between 1650 and 1653 and acquired a piece of land in Cap-Rouge following his marriage on July 20, 1653 to Louise Marsolet, daughter of Nicolas Marsolet de Saint-Aignan. He was elected mayor of Quebec City in 1664 and 1667.
